Denman & Davis Increases Albany Production Capacity 25% with an Additional Oliver Steel Plate-Cutting Saw

CLIFTON, N.J. – Sept. 26, 2006 – Denman & Davis today announced it has installed an upgraded 12-foot Oliver saw into its Albany, N.Y., facility, increasing capacity up to 25 percent to meet the growing demand for saw-cut steel plate.

The additional Oliver saw can cut plates up to eight inches thick at a maximum width of 12 feet and maximum length of 20 feet. The Albany facility now boasts three plate-cutting saws to handle a variety of applications; a 20-foot Oliver saw and a Kasto saw were already in operation.

“Our Albany location specializes in plate cutting, and retrofitting this Oliver saw will increase capacity at that site by nearly 25 percent,” said Dan Consiglio, director of operations for Denman & Davis. “Much of the demand is coming from the power generation and aerospace industries and burning the plates is not an option because the torches create hardened edges. Using the saws allows us to maintain the integrity of the material while helping to reduce the total costs.”

The updated Oliver saw underwent significant enhancements to increase its effectiveness, including new electrical components and a touch-screen operations function. Denman & Davis also redesigned the saw for ease of use, eliminating the pit configuration which collected coolants and chips below the machine. Instead, a trough was designed to capture the waste, moving the process above ground and making regular maintenance procedures easier to perform. The result is less down time and improved efficiency.
