Denman & Davis Installs High Speed Band Saw to Increase Hot-Roll Cutting
Productivity by 100 percent

CLIFTON, N.J. – December 11, 2007 –

Denman & Davis, the Northeast’s largest general-line independent steel service center, increased its hot-roll cutting capacity at its Clifton facility by 100 percent by installing a new Hyd-Mech V18 Automated Program Control band saw.

The Hyd-Mech V18 is a fully automated unit, allowing up to 99 different jobs to be stored for quick reference. It is capable of cutting 18-inch hot roll material with an extended head expanding that to 29 inches. It includes a six-degree tilted head that leads to longer blade life and quicker cuts by changing the angle of contact with the material. The machine will operate on a 52-foot conveyor line under the direction of a single technician.

“This machine offers a significant improvement in the cutting capabilities for our entire company,” said Dan Consiglio, Denman & Davis’ director of operations. “Automated controls, improved cutting technology and blade speed also improve plant safety by limiting the amount of operator contact with the material and the saw.”

To accommodate the new saw, Denman & Davis is refurbishing a work bay in Clifton. Those improvements include new cement, lighting, paint and a new conveyor system. Also included is a reconfigured coolant collection system with three built-in drainage pits, each 5.25 inches deep with safety grading to avoid splashing.

Saw installation and bay refurbishing will be completed in mid-January.
