Denman and Davis Plans Plasma torch Upgrades
CLIFTON, N.J. August 7, 2007 Denman & Davis, the Northeast’s largest general-line independent steel service center, plans to upgrade its plate-burning capabilities by retrofitting its Clifton facility with two high-definition plasma torches. The company plans to repurpose existing torches in its other facilities in Albany, N.Y., and Slatersville, R.I. Denman & Davis expects the upgrade will take up to 12 months to complete.
The first upgrade phase involves installing the new torches in Clifton, with the computer control system also under consideration for replacement. The one existing plasma torch will relocate to Albany, while the existing plasma torches in Albany will relocate to the Rhode Island site.
The plate-burning table in Clifton, a MG Messer MPC2000, has a current high-definition capacity of 1 ¼ inch in carbon plate and 5/8 inch in stainless, with the new capacity expected to reach 2 ½ inches in carbon and up to 1 ¼ inch in stainless while providing tighter cutting tolerances and marking abilities.
“We’re anticipating a production increase of up to 30 percent with the new torches, and, more importantly, our capabilities will be better rounded in all three facilities,” said Dan Consiglio, director of operations.
