Denman & Davis Adds Burning Machine to Slatersville Service Center; Enhances Pre-Processing Capabilities with Increased Speed and Precision
SLATERSVILLE, R.I., November 8, 1999 Reinforcing its commitment to providing value-added service for its customers, Denman & Davis has added a new burning machine to its Slatersville, Rhode Island facility. The new machine will allow the service center to cut steel quicker and cut at tighter tolerances to meet customer needs. A multi-location service center, Denman & Davis is headquartered in Clifton, N.J. with facilities in Slatersville and Albany, N.Y.
An open house was held recently at Slatersville to unveil the new Farley Stiletto, a sophisticated machine known for its speed, tight tolerances and ability to cut more parts per hour. The tolerances available in some gauges of the Farley Stiletto are competitive with laser units.
"The addition of the new Farley Stiletto will allow our saw operators to cut two to three times as many parts in the same amount of time. More parts per hour means shorter lead times, and also, the quality of the cut edge is superior to other methods of processing," said David N. Deinzer, President and CEO of Denman & Davis. "In offering this added service, we continue our goal of providing value to our customers by going the extra mile to meet their needs."
The Operations Department will use the Farley Stiletto to cut hot roll material in 1" thickness and under, and will operate the machine 24 hours a day, Mr. Deinzer said.
The Farley Stiletto is designed with automatic torch spacing and crash protection modules for optimal cutting speed, and the machine's controls and interfaces are designed to allow quick movement of the machine from position to position. The specially designed water tables of the Farley Stiletto can be filled quickly, which is significant since most parts will be cut underwater. Cutting parts underwater minimizes the possibility of camber and flatness problems. The amount of dross or slag is also minimized, which means that Denman & Davis can ship a part that is near to finished quality right from the processing table.
The computer numerical controls of the Farley Stiletto allow Denman & Davis operators to load larger programs that offer new nesting capabilities. Another benefit is that operators can edit programs at the machine station, giving them the opportunity to adjust tolerances on the fly so that no time is lost and tight delivery schedules can be met.
The new Farley Stiletto will replace three older burning machines, bringing the revised total to ten at the three Denman & Davis locations.
Denman & Davis is an ISO 9002 certified multi-location steel service center, supplying steel and other metal products to original equipment manufacturers, metalworking job shops, fabricators and maintenance and repair departments. The company is headquartered in Clifton, N.J.
